Managing risk is a part of operating a laboratory. This course looks at risk management and the risk requirements in ISO/IEC 17025. It covers what risk is, who is responsible for identifying and addressing risk, when to assess risk, and how risk might be addressed. 



Participants require access to a computer and a microphone in order to take this training. A headset with microphone is highly recommended. A webcam is recommended, but not required.

This is a virtual course.

This course is intended for anyone whose responsibilities include identifying, analyzing, evaluating, and addressing risks in the laboratory, including:

Course overview

Drawing from the requirements in ISO support documents, including ISO 31000, this course will look at some of the principles and guidelines for risk management. This course will cover best practices for managing risks in the laboratory, meeting the risk requirements in ISO/IEC 17025 and maintaining your risk management strategy.

This course is delivered in 2-half-days.

Objectives

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the risk requirements in ISO/IEC 17025
  • Apply risk-based thinking in the laboratory
  • Describe how risk-based thinking fits in the Deming Cycle (Plan-Do-Check-Act)
  • Apply the principles of risk management to develop a risk management strategy that aligns with their laboratory’s structure, including:

o    Risk identification
o    Risk analysis
o    Risk evaluation
o    Risk treatment
o    Monitoring and review
o    Recording and reporting
