Measurement Uncertainty (MU) has many uses and is an important component of a laboratory’s activities. This course will present the basics for evaluating measurement uncertainty.

At the end of the course, you will know how to use uncertainty and evaluate it efficiently.

This is a one-day course that is split over two half-days.

Participants require access to a computer and a microphone in order to take this training. A headset with microphone is highly recommended. A webcam is recommended, but not required.

This is a virtual course.

Please note: Only 1 participant per registration.

Contact training@cala.ca (613-233-5300) for group training options.

This course covers:

  • What MU is
  • The multiple uses of MU
  • The Types & Categories of Methods (physical, qualitative, chemical) & how they relate to MU
  • Some statistical tools used to estimate MU
  • How to Evaluate MU
    • Identify the measurand
    • List the steps in the analytical process
    • Identify potential uncertainty components
    • Estimate uncertainty for each source
    • Combine the uncertainty estimates
  • Understand the relation between MU & Metrological Traceability

This course uses EXCEL charts and simulated experiments to demonstrate the concepts and statistical tools.
