The Control Chart is a graphical technique that allows laboratories to visualize the inherent variation in an analytical process. Once established, the control chart for quality control samples can be used as a criterion for test result quality. Control charts meet the requirements for the use of statistical techniques to monitor the validity of test results as outlined in ISO/IEC 17025.

The Fundamentals of Control Charts course provides a thorough understanding of the theory and principles of control charts, reviews the use of control charts for typical quality control samples in the testing laboratory, and outlines the basic principles of control chart interpretation such as limits and trends. Control charts from real-world laboratories are used liberally throughout the course to illustrate control chart principles.

CALA also offers an advanced course Use and Management of Control Charts. See below for details on which course(s) best suit your needs.

This is a one-day course that is split over two half-days.

Objectives

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • State the statistical basis for control charts
  • Interpret the performance indicators presented by the control chart
  • Apply control charts to laboratory quality control samples
  • Identify basic control chart signals and trends on a control chart
  • Take appropriate remedial action based on control chart information
